SAN DIEGO FUN DAY
Puppies in Training
From 2 months to 16 months old, these puppies are introduced
to a variety of conditions. To experience different sites, sounds,
smells, and surfaces.  And they learn to handle everything in
stride and not be distracted.  It is the foundation to becoming
a working guide dog.

IT'S ALL ABOUT

There are approximately 1500 puppy raisers throughout
the western United States that are volunteer puppy raisers.
They welcome a puppy into their house, love them, train
them, socialize them and prepare them for the life of
becoming a working guide.  It is an extremely fulfilling
obligation and one with many rewards.

From puppy to guide, these dogs are truly amazing. To be part of a mobility team, ensuring the safety of their visually impaired partner, is an amazing piece of teamwork to witness.

Due to the patience, dedication, and tender loving care of their volunteer puppy raisers.  With routine training, outings in the neighborhood, and special events like the San Diego Fun Day, these puppies become well adapted and confident companions.

After all the training sessions, trips to the store, journeys to the Mall, or days at the office or classroom, these puppies get to still be puppies.  And even get to lounge in the sun every once and a while.
